NOMINEES UNVEIL- 12TH EDITION OF KALASHA INTERNATIONAL FILM AND TV AWARDS
Kalasha Awards seek to reward exceptional talent in various spheres in the Film and TV industry in Kenya. Central to the mission of the Kenya Film Commission is the promotion of a vibrant film industry. By recognizing our own level of excellence and the achievements of our film practitioners, we set benchmarks for future film-makers and encourage the expansion of the industry. Through the establishment of a set of regulations for the Awards which are both fair-minded and democratic, the Kenya Film Commission hopes to encourage a healthy level of competition amongst film makers which will lead to higher levels of good practice within the industry.
The Kenya Film Commission has unveiled the 2022 nominees for the 12th Edition of Kalasha International Film and TV Awards. This year, the Commission received 217 films in 1,204 categories. The nomination process of the 217 films submitted was carried out by a jury of experts consisting of stakeholders drawn from film industry associations, corporate, government and industry professionals.
39 categories will be awarded this year following addition of 9 new categories that include; Best Regional Film, Best Documentary (Short), Best Documentary (Feature), Best Makeup and Hair Stylist, Best Costume Designer, Best Supporting Actor in TV Drama, Best Supporting Actress in TV Drama, Best Viewer’s Choice (Feature) and Best Viewer’s Choice (TV Drama).
Some categories have been subjected to public voting which will constitute 20% whereas the jury votes will be 80%. The Best viewer’s choice categories (Feature Film and TV Drama) have been subjected to 100% public votes.
Voting is done through the Startimes ON App which can be downloaded on Google Playstore and App Store.
